Students are slowly getting into our new routines for Grade 2.
We are excited about our first field trip of the year next week. We are beginning to explore the idea of life cycles, how we have changed as we grow, and what are the environmental effects as we make choices. Students will investigate how bees help us and the environment.
We started spelling this week. The spelling in based on the children's reading levels. Your child may find that the words are "easy"; however, our focus in Grade 2 is to spell the words correctly and use the words correctly in reading and writing.
Students will be starting to work on a reading program called Raz-kids. Students will have access to this program at school and also at home. Students will be able to log in and work on reading skills and writing skills. Students will need to have earphones to participate in this program. You can imagine the background noise when 21 students are trying to listen to a story on the computer.
Our class gets very warm and I have asked students to make sure they have a clean, fresh water bottle daily. Many of our water fountains are quite a distance from the class and having a water bottle on the desk makes it handy for a quick drink.
Just a reminder for students to keep toys and special keepsakes at home. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Library books have started to be checked out. I have given each child a Ziploc bag to keep their books safe. Please ensure that your child has their bag each Tuesday for library.
The planner is being used on a regular basis. Please take a moment to sign your child's planner every night. Important notices and finished work will be sent in the front pocket. Please clean it out weekly.
Cold and flu season is quickly approaching. We will have a nurse visit our class this week to talk about how to stop the spread of germs. Please help your child to stay healthy by practicing hand washing, coughing and sneezing into their elbow, and staying home when they have been vomiting or running a fever.
